Christina Hendricks Hopes Fans Aren’t Left Waiting

The situation with AMC’s Mad Men is a case where no news is not necessarily good news. Though everyone is proceeding under the assumption that the acclaimed drama will be back for a fifth season, a huge question mark — one shaped like a dollar sign — looms over the when, seeing as series creator Matthew Weiner has yet to renew his deal with studio Lionsgate, which in turn needs to negotiate a new pact with AMC.“I know that there’s a Season 5 and we generally go back [to work] around May, June…. We’re just waiting for the word on when,” says Christina Hendricks, who plays pneumatic office manager Joan Holloway. “I’m anxious to get back and see what happens with [Joan], and to work with all my friends.”

In fact, so much work needs to be done toward hammering out each of the two aforementioned deals that some fret Mad Men won’t be ready in time for its unusual summertime premiere. Hendricks, though, deems herself unqualified to broach that hot topic. “I’ve heard just as many rumors as anybody else about the scheduling,” she says. “It’s already a long wait in between seasons for the fans, so I hope they don’t have to wait any longer.”

Until Hendricks’ fans get their next Joanie fix, they can at least hear the actress voicing another fierce femme, ace reporter Lois Lane in the new All-Star Superman animated film arriving on DVD this Tuesday. Here’s what she shared with TVLine about assuming that iconic role:

TVLINE | Is your Lois plucky, strong-willed, hardheaded…?
Certainly! I think she has to be all of that, because that’s Lois Lane to me. If you’re going to play her, you must always remember those qualities about her. Continue reading »

Christina Hendricks Talks ‘All Star Superman,’ DC Heroines, And Joss Whedon’s ‘Avengers’

Although her husband is a big fan, “Mad Men” actress Christina Hendricks was mostly a stranger to the world of comic books when she was approached to play one of the most iconic characters of all time for Warner Bros. I’m talking, of course, about Superman’s main squeeze, Lois Lane, who Hendricks voices in the latest animated feature from DC, “All-Star Superman.”However, the actress does have a connection to the Marvel Universe right now due to her friendship and past working relationship (on “Firefly”) with “The Avengers” director Joss Whedon.

At the recent world premiere of “All-Star Superman” in New York City’s Paley Center, I asked if she’d spoke to Whedon about a role in that film.

“I’ve seen him recently as he’s preparing for it and I don’t think there’s a role for me in this project,” Hendricks said. “But I hope to work with Joss in the future because he’s fantastic and really easy to work with and a friend. So not on this one…”

She trailed off after that statement, so maybe fans can keep hope alive to see her in Whedon’s next big project. After all, late last year she was rumored to be taking on another iconic role, that of Wonder Woman.

“As far as the Wonder Woman rumor goes,” she said, “that was started by I have no idea who, but it was a really nice compliment and no one’s approached me about playing that. But it’s a fun rumor to go around.” [Note: This interview took place before Adrianne Palicki had been cast in the role.]However, casting and voice director for “All-Star Superman,” Andrea Romano, thinks Hendricks could do great things with the character in the animated realm. Christina Hendricks lands her dream role as a model for Vivienne Westwood
Published on February 13th, 2011 by Flo & Filed in News and Rumours,Other Projects. Comments Off

Mad Men star Christina Hendricks, whose curvaceous figure has won her an army of male fans, has landed her dream role: modelling for British designer Vivienne Westwood.

Christina, 35, who plays office manager Joan Holloway in the U.S. series, will be showing off Vivienne’s latest jewellery collection.

‘I had such a fun day trying on all Vivienne’s new collection,’ Christina told me when we met up at Harvey Weinstein’s pre-Bafta awards party at the Almada Bar and Club in London’s Mayfair.

‘She is my favourite designer. As a young girl I would cut out pictures of her dresses from magazines, although I was never able to afford them.

‘Even now I only have one in my closet. The lovely thing now is that I can borrow them and they fit so well, unlike some designer clothes.’

Christina, who stars with Pierce Brosnan in the new film I Don’t Know How She Does It, won’t be at the Oscars later this month.

‘I am not nominated so I’ll be watching at home in my PJs,’ she added.
