A statement from AMC:

“AMC has officially authorized production of season 5 of Mad Men, triggering our option with Lionsgate (Mad Men‘s production company). While we are getting a later start than in years past due to ongoing, key non-cast negotiations, Mad Men will be back for a fifth season in early 2012.”

AMC, Lionsgate Close To Deal With Matt Weiner For ‘Mad Men’
Published on March 22nd, 2011 by Flo & Filed in Mad Men,News and Rumours. Comments Off

After months of negotiations over compensation (Weiner had been asking for a lot more than what he got under the a rich pact he inked with Mad Men producer Lionsgate TV and AMC 2 years ago), the sides are said to be finally (and slowly) nearing a deal. But with negotiations pushing into late March, Season 5 of Mad Men probably won’t be able to launch in the summer as the show normally does. The period drama usually premieres in late July. Two years ago, when Weiner didn’t close his deal until mid-January, the season premiere was pushed to August. It’s safe to say that the delay will be even bigger this year.

The starry cast of Company at the New York Philharmonic just got starrier: Mad Men leading lady Christina Hendricks, Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer and two-time Tony winner Katie Finneran have joined the forthcoming semi-staged production, according to The New York Times. With Neil Patrick Harris in the central role of bachelor Bobby, Company will play April 7-9 at Avery Fisher Hall, directed by Lonny Price and conducted by Paul Gemignani.

Hendricks will play flirtatious flight attendant April, with Cryer (the son of Phantom of the Opera cast member David Cryer and theater composer Gretchen Cryer) as David and Finneran as excitable Amy of “Not Getting Married” fame. Newly added cast members also include Craig Bierko (The Music Man) as Peter, Aaron Lazar (A Little Night Music) as Paul, Jill Paice (Curtains) as Susan, Jennifer Laura Thompson (Lend Me a Tenor) as Jenny and Chryssie Whitehead (A Chorus Line) as Kathy.

Previously announced company members include Patti LuPone as Joanne, Anika Noni Rose as Marta, Martha Plimpton as Sarah, Jim Walton as Larry and Stephen Colbert as Harry.

Featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by George Furth, Company follows a single, middle-aged New Yorker named Robert as he observes the relationships of his married, engaged and divorced friends. The show first opened on Broadway on April 26, 1970, and earned a Tony Award for Best Musical. A 2006 revival starring Raul Esparza as Bobby took home the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical.

The New York Philharmonic’s staged concerts will feature a 35-piece orchestra performing Jonathan Tunick’s original orchestrations.

With her infamous curves and shock of flaming red hair, we knew it wouldn’t be long before Christina Hendricks, star of the TV series ‘Mad Men‘, was signed up to be the ‘face’ of the latest must-have. Enter fellow redhead, ‘godmother of punk’ Dame Vivienne Westwood, in search of a model for her new jewellery range, and you have a match made in fashion heaven.

Hendricks, 35, has been quoted waxing lyrical about Westwood‘s work in the past, saying: “She is my favourite designer. As a young girl I would cut out pictures of her dresses from magazines, although I was never able to afford them. Even now I only have one in my closet”. She says of the collaboration: “It was a great honour for me to be asked to represent the ‘Get a Life‘ palladium jewellery collection. I admire that Vivienne uses her designs to inspire change and the pieces are just so wonderful. The pieces really sparkle under the lights and I cannot wait to wear them on the red carpet.”

And Westwood, 69, is equally praising about her new spokesmodel: “Christina is the embodiment of beauty and we were delighted to have been able to involve her with this new jewellery collection. Her style is just so complimentary to my designs. She has proved to be the perfect model for the campaign”. Continue reading »

Christina Hendricks to join ‘Top Chef Masters’ for a ‘Mad Men’-themed episode
Published on March 1st, 2011 by Flo & Filed in News and Rumours. Comments Off

Joan Holloway is about to get yet another close-up, but this time it’s on… Bravo? EW has learned exclusively that sultry Mad Men star Christina Hendricks and her actor husband Geoffrey Arend — who will be starring alongside Dana Delaney in ABC’s medical drama Body of Proof when it premieres March 29 — recently taped the second episode of Top Chef Masters‘ upcoming third season.

The challenge Hendricks and Arend are involved with will be appropriately ’60s themed, harkening to Hendrick’s role on AMC’s period drama. Dishes from the ’60s will no doubt provide lots of ways for the reality competition series’ producers to have fun with the yet-to-be-announced celebrity chef contestants — the names of dishes from that era alone are a blast. (“We’ve got oysters Rockefeller, beef Wellington, [a] Napoleon,” Roger Sterling (John Slattery) once said on an episode of Mad Men, trying to persuade a lady-friend to stay for a meal. “If we leave this lunch alone, it’ll take over Europe.”)

For this third season of Masters, Bravo has announced that former host Kelly Choi will be replaced with Australian celebrity chef and Celebrity Apprentice contestant Curtis Stone. The network has yet to announce the show’s premiere date or celebrity contestants.
